H. Con. Res. 375: To honor the goal of the International Year of Astronomy, and for other purposes was introduced Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) on June 20, 2008:

Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That the Congress–

(1) honors the goal of the International Year of Astronomy to celebrate astronomical discoveries;

(2) encourages the public to participate in IYA celebrations and activities and discover more about the Universe and the science of astronomy; and

(3) applauds the efforts of the employees, centers, and laboratories of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the National Science Foundation in promoting public understanding of the astronomical sciences during the celebration of the International Year of Astronomy.

  1. We in India wish to celebrate the IYA-09 with involvement of scientists, R.&D. People and scientific & educational institutions and would like to conduct activities in all the districts of the country through Deptt. of Science & Technology and NCSTC-Network (a network of 76 voluntary and State Organisations)involved in Science Communication in the countryside.
    The main focus will be to have interface with people in the area of generating scientific World View trough astronomy and celebrating the major discoveries
